When you can apply

You can apply for FETF 2025 using the Farming Investment Fund service between 29 May and midday on 10 July 2025.

This is the only application window for FETF 2025.

Each item in this list has an expected average cost, based on item costs from a cross-section of suppliers.    

 The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) will pay you a grant amount of 50% towards either: 

  • the average cost of the item – if an item costs you the same or more than the expected average cost in this list  
  • the actual cost you pay for the item – if an item costs you less than the average cost in this list

FETF69 - Mobile sheep handling system

Expected average cost of item (£): 9,761
Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1) (£): 4,880

Item must:

  • be a trailer-mounted sheep handling system
  • hold a minimum of 250 adult sheep
  • include a minimum of 48 metres (m) of hurdles, excluding the hurdles that form the drafting race, to create a gathering pen, a forcing pen and at least 2 side pens
  • include a drafting and dosing race that can fit a footbath
  • be based on a trailer which is permanently integrated into the handling system and forms part of the handling race
  • be made primarily of metal

Ferrous metal must be galvanised or powder coated.

Painted items are not eligible.

Trailers that are not integrated and could be used for other purposes are not eligible.

Items with wooden elements are not eligible.

You must provide this item’s serial number when you submit your claim for payment.

You cannot claim for a mobile sheep handling system under item FETF69 if including any part of this item in a claim for item FETF243A – Sheep race or FETF70 – Fixed sheep handling system.

Shepherdsmate handling system has 3- way draft gate & squeeze as standard.

Shepherdsmate sheep handling system will be substantially below expected average cost. FETF 74, 78, 80,81, 82,101 can be fitted in this unit.

Additional items which are not grant aided can be fitted into the system e.g. Rollover, Footbath, shearing flap.

FETF70 - Fixed sheep handling system

Expected average cost of item (£): 5,051
Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1) (£): 2,525

Item must: 

  • be a fixed sheep handling system
  • hold a minimum of 100 adult sheep
  • have a gathering pen, a forcing pen and at least two side pens
  • have a drafting and dosing race that can fit a footbath
  • be made primarily of metal
  • be fixed to the ground by concreting the supporting post into the ground or by bolting it into an existing concrete floor

Ferrous metal must be galvanised or powder coated.

Painted items are not eligible.

Items with wooden elements are not eligible.

Item must be installed and operational at the time of submitting your claim.

You cannot claim for a fixed sheep handling system under item FETF70 if including any part of this item in a claim for item FETF243A – Sheep race or FETF69 – Mobile sheep handling system.

Shepherdsmate handling system has 3- way draft gate & squeeze as standard.

Shepherdsmate sheep handling system will be substantially below expected average cost. FETF 74, 78, 80,81, 82,101 can be fitted in this unit.

Additional items which are not grant aided can be fitted into the system e.g. Rollover, Footbath, shearing flap.

FETF71 - Sheep handler

You cannot claim for a sheep handler under item FETF71 if including the item in a claim for item FETF69 – Mobile sheep handling system.

FETF 74, 78, 80,81, 82,101 can be fitted in this unit.

Additional items not grant aid including mobile trailer, Rollover and shearing flap can be added to this unit.

ETF74 - EID panel reader for sheep

  • be a static or race EID panel reader for sheep, with antenna and Bluetooth connection
  • be able to read Half Duplex (HDX) and Full Duplex B (FDX-BEID tags
  • be permanently fixed to a sheep handling system

Portable readers are not eligible.

FETF78SH - Individual electronic weigh system

  • be an individual electronic weigh system
  • be a digital weighing device which can record and display individual animal weights
  • be able to track live weight gains and access recorded information on individual animals such as breeding or movements
  • provide full functionality to input, access, record and display data while using the system via app, cloud or mobile device – a mobile device can be included in the purchase if required
  • be capable of connecting to an EID reader and automatic drafting systems

Group and automatic average animal weighing systems are not eligible.

If item uses an app or cloud-based system, you will be required to provide evidence of functionality when submitting your claim.

Weigh bars are not included in this item. See item FETF79SH, FETF79PI, and FETF79CA – Weigh bars and weigh platforms for weighing livestock or item FETF80SH, FETF80PI and FETF80CA – Weigh bars or platform for animals less than 300kg.

FETF79SH - Weigh bars and weigh platforms for livestock

  • be 2 electronic load bars or an electronic weigh platform to operate with digital weigh heads or readers for use with livestock over 300kg
  • be suitable for use with cattle crushes or batch weighing pens for sheep or pigs
  • be capable of weighing 2000kg to allow for large handling equipment

Non-electronic weighing systems are not eligible.

FETF80SH - Weigh bars and weigh platforms for livestock less than 300kg

Digital weigh heads/readers are not eligible under this item. See item FETF78SH, FETF78PI and FETF78CA – Individual electronic weigh system.

You cannot claim for a Weigh bars and weight platforms for livestock less than 300kg under item FETF80SH if including any part of this item in a claim for item FETF72 – Automatic weighing and drafting crate for sheep.

FETF81SH - EID handheld recorder device

  • be an EID handheld device with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for data reading and recording of individual animals
  • be able to record information on breeding, births, weights, treatments and movements

  • export data to a computer-based software package to monitor livestock

FETF102SH - Automatic vaccination gun for livestock

  • be an automatic vaccination gun for livestock
  • wirelessly communicate with a weigh head or stock reader to automatically adjust the dosage of vaccine or medicine depending on the animal’s weight
  • download or upload vaccination reports using wireless technology

You can only apply for a maximum of 2 automatic vaccination guns for livestock per application. This restriction applies across all species.

You must provide this item’s serial number when you submit your claim for payment.

FETF236A - Plastic slats

Expected average cost of item (£): 34
Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1) (£): 17

Item must:

  • be a system of durable, slatted plastic tiles that connect together to form a raised grid for the temporary indoor housing of sheep or creation of an isolation pen
  • have a non-slip surface
  • have tiles that area minimum of 15 millimetres (mm) in depth
  • be designed for use with livestock
  • have a floor surface no more than 450mm above ground height

Item must be purchased through a supplier or manufacturer – home built items are not eligible.

Cost per square metre.

Item only eligible for use with sheep.

Items with wooden elements are not eligible.

Ferrous metal must be galvanised or powder coated.

Painted items are not eligible.

Item must be installed and operational at the time of submitting your claim.

Installation costs are not eligible.
